I began practicing Pilates after having my second C-section. I remember going into my first reformer class with all forms of back pain, and feeling discouraged because I had been active and athletic my whole life. I was no longer able to do the things that I loved and enjoyed, due to instability and pain. I then remember leaving that first reformer class feeling taller and thought “YES this is exactly what my body has been begging for!!”. For me the results were that immediate.

I had planned on pursuing a my doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, and had just graduated with my undergraduate degree in Athletic Training/Kinesiology. I decided to pursue becoming a certified Pilates Instructor prior to returning to graduate school. I gained my comprehensive training through Peak Pilates, and have been instructing for 12 years. It was not until my second year of Physical Therapy school that I began to realize “Pilates IS Physical Therapy!!”. The scientific methods I was learning, Joseph Pilates had been practicing before Physical Therapy was even a profession. Pilates is a lifelong solution to Physical Therapy!

After loosing mobility or obtaining an injury, you must focus on the one joint or area that was disrupted to regain proper use. In order to maintain that progress, you must continue to strengthen and utilize the joint (in line with the ones surrounding it) - to bring it back in equilibrium with the rest of the body. Everything begins with a center. The core is the center of the human body, all limbs stem from it, and also it houses/protects the spine (which translates all signals to and from the brain to the muscles, nerves and organs). With Pilates we begin with strengthening the core, while placing the limbs in their proper alignment. This allows the body to work in the position it was intended to (versus some of the improper movement patterns we fall into over time). I watch complete transformation everyday. I tell my clients that my job satisfaction is watching their bodies change in front of my eyes.

After Physical Therapy school, I began working at Vbodies. I have seen how powerful Pilates can be in restoring the body and protecting it from further injury. I have watched 89 year old clients be able to do more physically than 25 year old in shape athletic adults! My back pain from an entire life of scoliosis has completely dissipated, I manage pain from 3 herniated discs with Pilates and am living proof that it works! With the Powerfomer I have been able to take my personal fitness to another level, and enhance athletic abilities. I want to share this with the world! My personal goal in life is to reach everyone and spread the word on how Pilates can not only transform your body, but your life. I began to focus my efforts on Pilates, and bring the two worlds of Physical Therapy and Pilates together. I strongly urge you to get on the reformer, try it and see how your body responds. It works!!!
